Notes

Natural musk used to be extracted from a gland of the musk deer which is said to resemble a scrotum. Muṣká (मुष्क) can mean both scrotum and testicle. According to Apte's Sanskrit-English Dictionary, it can also mean "a muscular or robust man" or "a thief".
