Longest speech at the UN

The longest speech ever given to the UN was delivered in 1957 by V.K. Krishna Menon, who filibustered for nearly eight hours while defending India's position on Kashmir.

Menon's epic filibuster allowed "Nehru moved swiftly and successfully to consolidate Indian power in Kashmir. Menon's passionate defense of Indian sovereignty in Kashmir enlarged his base of support in India, and led to the Indian press temporarily dubbing him the 'Hero of Kashmir'".
