(Robert) Clive of Plassey was an opium addict who committed suicide at the age of forty nine in 1774.
Clive supposed got addicted to opium as he used it to relieve the pain caused by gallstones. How he died is not exactly known. However, the preferred theory is that he died of an overdose.
