Edwin Lutyens said this after looking at the hideous buildings of Simla, the then summer capital of British India. He went on to say, "It is inconceivable—and consequently very English!—to have a capital as Simla entirely of tin roofs, and then the tin roofs monkeying better materials and reducing the whole show to absurdity."
