Uttar Pradesh

Gorakhpur, a sleepy city in Uttar Pradesh not far from the Nepal border, is home to the world's longest railway platform at 1.355 km long. The previous record-holder was a platform at Kharagpur in West Bengal.

The British pop singer, Cliff Richard, was born Harry Rodger Webb in the King's English Hospital in Lucknow. His family later moved to Calcutta before leaving India for good when he was around eight years old.

The first entirely Indian bank was the Oudh Commercial Bank. It was established in 1881 in Faizabad (Saket) and functioned until 1958.

India's longest highway is the NH7 which runs between Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu, a distance of 2369 km.
