The Grave Guru

The Sanskrit word guru (गुरु) and the English word, grave, are both said to descend from the same Proto-Indo-European base, *gru-, meaning heavy or weighty.

Notes

According to my Sanskrit dictionary, besides teacher or preceptor, the Sanskrit guru (गुरु) carries the alternate sense of heavy or weighty. This is listed as its primary (and probably original) definition. Other senses include great, best, large, important, arduous, haughty, superintendent, and the planet Jupiter, amongst a slew of others.
